SYNOPSIS

Music by Jeannie Tesori  |  Book and Lyrics by Lisa Iron  |  Based on the graphic novel by Alison Bechdel

An unforgettable and groundbreaking musical, Fun Home explores the haunting pull of memory and the power it has to alternately destroy, or shape, our identity. Adapted from Alison Bechtel’s groundbreaking graphic novel, Fun Home is a refreshingly honest, wholly original musical about seeing your parents through grown-up eyes.

When her father dies unexpectedly, graphic novelist Alison dives deep into her past to tell the story of the volatile, brilliant, one-of-a-kind man whose temperament and secrets defined her family and her life. Moving between the past and present, Alison relives her unique childhood playing at the family’s Bechdel Funeral Home, her growing understanding of her own sexuality, and the looming, unanswerable questions about her father’s hidden desires. With a score that ranges from exuberant 70s pop to aching melodies and dissonant harmonies of characters longing to be known, Fun Home is the Tony Award-winning story of a daughter and father, of coming out, and coming to terms with a life shaped by a family’s secrets.

Fun Home was the winner of 5 Tony awards, including Best Musical, Best Score, and Best Book.
